Show Manti ants Woman Reaches 97 Wednesday March 20 mark- mark marked the birthday of Mrs Mary Ann Limb Young of Manti Mrs Young was born in Beaver March 20 1871 and grew up there While Mule attending the Murdock Academy there a teacher there Rhynard Major persuaded her to go to the University University University Uni Uni- of Deseret which is now known as the University of Utah She went by special appointment and took the normal course for teaching then accepted a school in Thurber now Bicknell in Wayne County While in Beaver she had met LeRoy W. W Young through his sister sister sister sis sis- sis sis- ter who was teaching school there and a romance developed They TIley were married in the Manti Temple June 28 1893 having made the trip from Thurber to Manti in a covered wagon They made their home in Fremont Wayne County where their first three children were born Then they next moved to Orangeville for a summer and finally settled in Huntington Emery County where five more children were born In 1911 Mr Young died of heart trouble and the courageous widow widow widow wid wid- ow carried on alone caring for forthe forthe forthe the farm fann rearing her children and putting them through school In addition to her other duties she took a course in obstetrics from Dr Alice Shipp and during during during dur dur- ing the next neat 30 years delivered most of the babies in that area When her health failed her youngest son took her to San Francisco where she lived for 14 years Then he purchased a supermarket supermarket supermarket su su- su- su at Chester Calif and they all moved there It was while there that her son returning returning returning return return- ing home from a neighboring town with checks for the payroll payroll payroll pay pay- roll one day was robbed of the he carried and murdered murdered murdered mur mur- dered together with his two oldest oldest oldest old old- est daughters and a neighbor boy His youngest child was left for dead but miraculously sur sur- Another son went to Chester to take over the business and Mrs Young remained there until until until un un- til 1963 when she came to Manti to be with her son Ralph who had suffered a stroke and lost his wife at the same time Even though in her nineties Mrs Young has made an amazing record here often attending three temple sessions a day until until until un un- til the last year when she narrowed narrowed narrowed nar nar- rowed it down to two sessions a day |
