Show I WASH EEK By George A. A Benson So the PAC the political arm of the CIO is embarked upon a campaign to defeat all those members of Congress who are rea responsible responsible re re- re- re for high prices This organization which cannot agree upon a Presidential I candidate to crary its banner has just announced that it saw how 00 men in Congress kicked off the lid on prices of food and clotha cloth- cloth a ing Consequently it is collecting a huge campaign fund to defeat them at the polls next November CIO CIa members it says must fight against Congressmen who fought against us T This of course ik is i arrant nonsense for no Congressman byI by I his vote had anything to do with high prices If the PAC is honest in its campaign there is only one thing ii it can do namely direct its its' fight against President Truman Let us look at at the record 7 The inflation now bedeviling the American people is the result of monetary and fiscal policies pursued by four successive Ne New v v Deal Administrations President Roosevelt began them continued continued continued con con- them for a long time and President Truman pursued them wholeheartedly the while he added a few inflationary processes of or his own High prices were not voted by Congress and the removal r of OP OPA A controls did not cause them High prices are the result of inflation on and inflation is the result of New Truman Deal-Truman policies Chief among these policies has been the year 15 record of deficit financing which has put into circulation the most prodigious sum of money the country has ever known Other policies all of them approved by a subservient Democrat Congress all through the years of the New Deal contributed their share but they need not be listed here It should be mentioned however that Mr Truman's wage k program his foreign relief program and his high tax program have added greatly to the forces of inflation So long as we ve had rationing OPA controls served as a brake on inflation But the minute rationing was ended there was vas no hope of checking price increases by OPA controls It was vas Mr Truman w who o ended rationing who indeed wiped out all price controls in in late 1946 when as he said they no longer nger served any good policy This is the truth but naturally truth matters little to those friends of the common man who seek only to enhance their own powers 0 y v |
