Show Funeral Held For Will Arthur Cox Jr Funeral services for William Arthur Cox Jr 78 were ere conducted in the I I Manti North ward chapel Tuesday i afternoon by Bishop Girven Stott Mr I Cox prominent horseman road and nod fence builder died Friday July 16 from cau causes s incident to age following a lingering illness Mr Cox was born at Manti Sept 4 1869 the first child of William Arthur Ar- Ar Arthur Arthur Ar Ar- thur and Mary Christina Andersen Cox His father crossed the plains with the early Utah pioneers and ar arrived arrived arrived ar- ar rived rived in Manti in 1852 at the age of 12 after driving an ox team most of the way from Missouri When theelder theelder the theelder elder Mr Cox was called to fill a mission in Colorado young Will Arthur Arthur Ar Ar- thur was left to shoulder the re responsibilities responsibilities re- re of the family at an early age responsibilities that helped develop de develop develop de- de much of the initiative industry and resourcefulness which characterized character character- his life He contributed greatly to the development of this area Mr Cox married Ina ma Rosella Peacock Peacock Peacock Pea Pea- cock April 27 1892 in the Manti temple temple temple tem tem- and three sons and two da daughters were born to them One son Edgar proceeded him in death He is survived survived survived sur sur- by his widow and four sons and daughters Mrs Zella ZelIa Keller Jay and Henry Cox Manti and Mrs Mary Klein San Francisco six grandsons 7 granddaughters 14 great grandchild ren and six brothers and sisters Fred W W. W Lee Hall Music w was was furnished by the South ward quartet Ray P P. Hougaard was the first speaker and reviewed Mr Coxs Cox's life telling of the many contributions he had made to the area surrounding Manti The speaker also told of Mr Coxs Cox's love of fun and sportsmanship of his ability with and love for good horses and his leadership among his companions as a youth and through UI 1 Edward P P. Cox of Nephi a cousin told of his associations with Will Vill during during during dur dur- ing the years they spent together as of the Forest Service He told of the spirit of comradeship among the many groups of men who worked under Wills Will's supervision of his ability to lead men to accomplishment accomplish accomplish- his love of the out of ment rs and his pride in superior craftsman craftsman- ship The speaker expressed the belief be belief be- be lief that his cousin had acquired greater practical know how through experience that most people could gain in a lifetime of study He did not carve hi his name on trees but the name of Will Cox is shouted by many miles of log-and-block log fences by byroads byroads byroads roads bridges trails and other developments developments developments devel devel- that knew his hand the speaker said Andrew J. J Judd the next speaker ha had ha been asked to s speak ak at the funeral funeral fun fun- eral oral by Mr Cox some time before his death Mr Judd told how they had been associated together in city work he as mayor and Mr lVIr Cox as supervisor of streets and how before that time Mr Cox had served as a n year four-year councilman Mr Judd ex expressed expressed expressed ex- ex pressed gratitude for the associations he had had with Mr l Cox and said he believed Wills Will's body had housed the spirit of of- ofa a true Mormon pioneer He said a fitting monument to Mr Coxs Cox's life would show him at worl with a large pair of bay horses horse straining the traces of a heavy harness harness har har- ness and with a pair of large haimes haime housings inscribed with the letters letter W V.
