D Nielson Nielson Nielson Niel- Niel son told the council that a series series series se se- ries of Civil Defense classes are planned to begin the first of the year He said the classes require 12 hours to complete and hoped that one or two members of each family in Manti would attend He also encouraged council members to enroll The possibility of installing the city's old siren at the power plant to be used in case of a CD emergency was dis dis- dis- dis cussed It was felt that in case of attack there may be no electrical electrical elec elec- power within the city to sound the present fire siren The power plant would be able to produce enough power for the siren to be sounded if it were by the power plant It was decided decided decided de de- de- de to put up the siren by the plant on a trial basis Councilman Morgan Dyreng reported that the new National Guard gymnasium Armory-gymnasium plans call for a n three-inch three water line and meter to be installed Mr Dyreng also read a letter from the Brotherhood of Rail Rail- road which reported that the Rio Grande Railroad was trying to discontinue the freight train which runs between Denver and Salt Lake which would mean an end to freight service in Sanpete via rail The letter asked the council to write a protest to the Interstate Commerce Commerce Commerce Com Com- merce Commission It was also announced that the council meetings for the month of January will be held on Jan 9 and 23 starting at pm p.m. In February the meetings willbe willbe will willbe be held again on the customary first and third Monday 1 |
