Show THE MESSAGE By MARGARET I RUSSELL We who have been quite drab draban all an year are blossoming out in red caps and jackets because the deer hunting season is upon us We are oiling guns and making making making mak mak- ing long lists of necessary sup sup- plies We are prowling about the mountains searching for good spots Our business people people people peo peo- are preparing for the influx of Californians and others who will pour into this region hoping hoping hoping hop hop- ing to find a hunters hunter's heaven We are going to have a hunt ball Our children are going to have a holiday from school This is truly our season Some of us experience the thrill of the hunt only vicar vicar- We listen to the tales of others and in our minds we too are creeping through the underbrush underbrush underbrush under under- brush and bringing down the mighty stag with one shot Some people are not intrigued by the hunt at all They speak of big soft eyes and cruelty and even wickedness So that these people wont won't be entirely left out during this wonderful and magnificent magnificent magnificent mag mag- season let us recommend recommend recommend mend that they conduct a dear hunt of another kind This way they too can be a part of the goings I must say though that I will consider it very hypocritical of them if they eat any of the deer meat so bravely procured by others I think they should stick to hamburger Cows have big soft eyes too but Ive I've never heard any of them complain about this Cows look a bit awkward when they run so maybe that makes killing them all right Its It's amazing though how many people cant can't tell the difference difference difference dif dif- dif dif- ference between a cow and a deer Or between a deer and a human for that matter The wise mama deer knows this and gathers her children together telling them to beware because this is the season when men invade the mountains and shoot at each other |
