WHITMAN Care of New Floors And Woodwork QUESTION We are arc moving into ou our new home soon and I would a lik like some information on the care of oZ my floors and woodwork The floors a are r e varnished oak The woodwork is birch also varnished The doors are of flush design and also varnished It is all very light ight an and I would like to keep it that way What should I Ius u s e when cleaning the floors and what kind of wax would you recommend finger marks be removed from the woodwork with soap and w water tei Or what would you advise ANSWER A floor finish should be protected by waxing except when there are old people or young children in the house Paste floor loor wax can be used applied in a athin athin athin thin even coat and polished after a hour half-hour for drying It can be cleaned with a dry hair broom or cloth or a specially treated mop It should not need frequent ing except as required in traffic lanes and near doorways It should be polished or well rubbed about once a week This can be done with v a polishing weight or a light electric floor polishing machine Badly soiled places can be cleaned with a liquid wax made for this purpose There are special non- non slip floor waxes that are sold in bulks only and made especially for convalescent homes |
