Show Farmers Fight Figh t Grasshoppers Weeds Beds and Weevil Farmers of Sanpete County as a whole are to be commended commend commend- I ed for the intensive fight they I are waging on grasshoppers weeds and weevil states Seymour Seymour Seymour Sey Sey- mour 1 of the Snow College Agricultural department acting county agent Mr I reports that last week bags of poisoned bran and sawdust bait were put putout putout putout out in the war on hoppers most of it from Manti lanti to the north Ephraim fields and pastures Some bags of the bait we were e scattered in Flat Canyon some 6 miles north of Fayette and then east of the highway Good kills of the pests are reported practically everywhere he states Almost a perfect kill was obtained in baiting the area northwest of Fountain Green Greenwhich Greenwhich Greenwhich which was heavily infested with Mormon Crickets After some 50 acres had been baited two weeks ago a careful check of much of this ba baited ted area was made and only 9 live crickets were found he states Before there had been millions of the pests In some places in the county county- it was estimated there were as many as live grasshoppers to a square yard which is 9 square feet In one such baited area Ben Kjar of Manti 1 counted dead hoppers on an area of abo about t two square feet Mr 1 states That would be slightly more than for fora a square yard Mr 1 l also reports much spraying for weeds and alfalfa weevil and states the latter seems especially hard to control this year many patches of alfalfa having been sprayed twice Large areas and small patches of white whitetop top have been sprayed in all parts of the county with witha a special campaign being waged by some irrigation companies on the white whitetop top along ditch and canal banks The county weed committee has been very active in urging and assisting individual farmers and groups to spray for different different different differ differ- ent kinds of noxious weeds In order that more people will beable be beable able to contact the weed committee committee committee com com- for assistance in the fight on weeds he lists the members as follow A.
