Show Snow B in n Mountains Unusually Deep For First Of t Year The snow cover in the mountains east of Sanpete valley is unusually deep for this time of year according to measurements made by the Great Basin Research Center on January 2 2 The measurements are made at three different courses in Ephraim canyon and for many years have been used by the forest service and other agencies agencies agencies agen agen- cies to indicate the expected run-off run from the mountains in this entire section section section sec sec- tion of Utah The lower measuring place is called the Oaks Station and is in the oak- oak brush zone with an elevation of feet The next measuring place is at atthe atthe atthe the Great Basin Experiment station which is in the aspen zone and has hasan hasan hasan an elevation of feet The site is known as the Meadows station and is in the sub-alpine sub zone near the top of the mountain elevation feet While the measurements have been made for many years the courses where measurements were taken were changed a few years back to o include areas more ore average of general condi condi- For this reason the ilie time long-time averages are not used but only those from 1941 and on The following table ta table table ta- ta ble gives the snow depth and water content at the three stations for the present year last year and the 45 1941 average 5 The Oaks 1947 1946 Snow depth Water Vater content 55 33 27 G.
