Show I THE AMERICAN WAY WAYBy ux ix FA L LEASE EASE R Y By George Peck kY Please dont don't let the title mislead you This article is not a censure of General Eisenhower On the contrary if you will read on you will find it a paean of the highest praise On December 3 1946 the Churchman magazine made its Eighth Annual Award by presenting a bronze plaque to General Dwight D. D D Eisenhower for his promotion of good will and better understanding among all people The General richly deserved this recognition The Churchman did well in making this award to the Chief of Staff of Uncle Sams Sam's Army It has been charged in some quarters that the Churchman is rather in its editorial policy others allege that it leans far over to the left General Ike however in his speech accepting the plaque left no doubt as to how he stands on sound Americanism In fact his remarks would indicate that he was well aware vare of the accusations leveled at the Churchman and deliberately went all out to dispel arty any suspicion he was tarred with any pinkish brush The General described himself as a fanatic a fanatical devotee devotee devotee de de- de- de votee of the American system of democracy He said he believed there were two fundamental bases of this system 1 A deep and abiding religious faith and 2 that it is a system of freedom of rights and liberties of the individual described as free enterprise Without these two fundamentals he declared there could be beno beno beno no democracy Then he voiced his I conviction that no individual including even himself can be trusted with absolute power by stating stating stating stat stat- stat stat- ing I am certain that if you entrust all your affairs and your property and your liberties to a bureaucrat in Washington such asI asI as asI I am ant you ou would not have democracy as as we know it now There may still be some doubt about the sound Americanism of the Churchman Chuchman but General Eisenhower has left none regarding his It was also most refreshing to learn that our greatest General named a deep and abiding religious faith as the first of two bases of our American Way It was especially timely because all too many ministers of the Gospel have been bitten by the socialist bug bug This statement of General Ikes Ike's should cause all such seriously seriously seriously ser ser- to a return to preaching religious faith as the one and only thing that can regenerate mankind By way of contrast let me quote Karl Marx the arch apostle of communism The democratic concept of man an is false because itis itis it itis is Christian The democratic concept holds that each man has a value as a soverign being This is the illusion dream and postulate of Christianity that man has a sove sovereign eign soul And then l as a further warning to our Men Men of or of the Cloth who seemingly have given up on God as the savior v of mankind please read what Earl Browder our leading born American-born of Marx has toI to I say ay Browder brazenly boasts of how his communist party has invaded church groups in America Writes Browder It is significant that the communist party more than any other group has been able to achieve successful united fronts with church groups on the most important issues of the day This is not due to any compromise compromis on our part with religion as such In Ingoing Ingoing Ingoing going among the religious masses we are for or the first time able to bring our oar religious anti-religious ideas to them Earl Browder announces that his atheistic party has brought its religious anti-religious ideas to church groups in an effort to destroy the deep and abiding religious faith which General Eisenhower states c is isone one one e of the two bases of the American system of democracy Need any more b be said I v U I f I U.
