Show Ephraim Boy Tells Of Chicago Club Trip S I My 1 first trip to Chicago was in inthe inthe the tho year 1926 I wone this trip by having aying the Ule best livestock project in the II 4 club work in iii Utah for forthe forthe forthe the year ear 1926 Before showing my sheep m my object ob oh- Joel Jeet was to grain and fatten them My Iy county count agent Mr Stott and state club leader Mr 11 Murry gave a fitting demonstration whIch v I think helped mo me a lot in getting my sheep in shape shapo After they were fa fat t I trimmed them there up UI with the s tance of the local leader londer After trimming them I put on some sonic blankets blan- blan which P I made of burlap This kept inept all the tho dirt and straw out of the wool The fhe next t thing I did was to see soe about pens pons for the tho sheep at tho the county fair This our club leader Ralph Jorgensen helped with Ho lIe r f fl 1 leader 1 Sure tj 1 is IS a U nc AU ni u uw Our next problem wigs was to get the I sheep to the County Fair at Mauti ManU The club members decided that they would haul the sheep to the tho fall fair fallin in a wagon Wo We fixed up a hayrack hay hay- hayrack l rack wagon and hauled them to I Manti a distance istance of or seven miles from Ephraim I At the fair I wone wore five prizes i n tho the boys bors clu club department as fol fo follows lows 1 1 First on a aged ed ewe I Ii i 2 Second on lamb lamp I 3 Fourth on lamb Iamb I s 4 Grand Grald champion female 5 5 Also prize for the best hest fitted sheep My Iy work then was to finish my record that hat I had kept on m my sheep C Continued on page pago 4 I Ephraim Boy Tells of Chicago Trip Continued from page ono one as well w ellas as to write my club stor story In a few weeks I rec received word from the County Countr Agent that I had won wort the trip to Chicago that the Cudahy Packing Company gave to the boy hoy or girl irl in Utah doing the j I best work in a livestock project I 1 loft left for Chicago November 26 and arrived there November I was met at the train by hy State County Agent Leader Leaders Leader's t tIn W. W W. W Owens in Salt SnIt Lake who accompanied me meto meto meto to Ogden and by Pro Professor J. J C C. Hogenson o of the Utah Agricultural Colle College e in Chicago I I was taken to the LaS lle Hotel where I stayed for the week I We Ve visited the museum the tho first aa clay aay a and d. d then returned to the hotel i where we meet Harry A. A whom I roomed with while tle in Chi cago sago The next day we spent at the International International International In In- Livestock Show We saw all the fine fino animals from all allover allover 11 over the country and also saw the tho thoI I best farm products produced in tho the country The next da day we visited with Thomas E. E Wilson at the Clays Clas Pack Packing Packing Packing ing Company Plant We Ve then returned returned returned re re- re- re turned to the Livestock Show and saw sal the tho stock stocIe judging and that night returned to U the Packing Co for supper The third dap clap we were to the Swift Packing Co and was shown through and had a fine big luncheon which was served In the Packing Packinghouse house and that night to a banquet at the Congress Hotel The fourth da day we went to the International Harvester Company Compan plant where they were making all kinds hinds of farm implements We Vo saw there that each man had his bis part to do on the machinery which was being made That night we were given givon a banquet at the Serman Hotel Tho The fifth da day we wo did a little shopping at some sumo of the big stores Then went to a banquet at the La LaSalle LaSalle LaSalle Salle Hotel that night Wo VO left lert for home the next day dayon dayon dayon on train number nineteen and had u hU u 1 h I a pleasant journey homeward Y UI gave me mo time to think of the wonderful wonderful wonderful won won- I things I had seen Wo We certainly enjoyed ourselves I and liked the scenery both going and coming corning which Is decorated with corn fields horses cattle hogs and anda a few fow sheep Wo We also crossed the biggest river in the tho United States the Mississippi l River also the Missouri Missouri Mis Mis- River and the North Platte River This TIlis was a great experience and tit lit should make a lot of at boys bos and girls more interested in the H 4 club work in Ephraim in Sanpete County and in the state of Utah Marlin 1 C.
