Show Columnist um 8 Visits kits Manti i Perk Park Editors Editor's note This is taken from a column called Bayou Browsing written by Grits Gresham of Natchitoches La who recently paid a visit to Manti lanti and wrote part of or his column about Manti l Manti lanti Utah June 17 So youve you've never heard of Manti lanti Utah Neither had I until this morning when we were pointed point point- ed in this direction by a couple from City Iowa a pair pall we met in a laundromat in Salt Lake City When you embark upon a camping swing through a portion portion portion por por- tion of this United States as asive five ive from Natchitoches Natchitoches Natchitoches ches did three weeks ago you enter a different world You begin to notice places and things and people which formerly formerly formerly for for- merly made no impression You become conscious of the number of house trailers pickup campers and tent trailers you pass and the location lo location location lo- lo cation of campgrounds becomes be becomes becomes be- be comes important in your selection se selection selection se- se lection of a route The small town of Manti l may have other claims to fame but the thing about the village village vil village vil- vil lage of 2000 people that en endears endears endears en- en dears it to us is the lush verdant verdant verdant ver ver- dant park in which I sit writing writing writing writ writ- ing this The park is one whole block square is carpeted with thick grass sprinkled liberally with shade trees and is equipped equipped equipped equip equip- ped with picnic barbecue pits running water and rest rooms A fine city swimming pool Is in one corner Along the west edge of or the park electrical I outlets have have- been placed for forthe forthe forI the benefit of campers I The park is not advertised Its It's in ih none of or the camping books were we're carrying It is 4 blocks off the main highway through town and no signs to toI its location Yet there are at I least half a dozen families camped here tonight I u UT r uL u ii 11 If you re heading south SOUtH you YUU should plan to spend the night at Manti ManU said Ray Nelson of Sioux City got a fine park there The Nelsons were campers and we were campers and dirty clothes just led us together together together toge toge- ther in that Salt Lake laundromat laun laun- They just felt obliged to share with us their discovery discovery dis dis- cov covery ry of a nice overnight camping spot a friendly gesture gesture gesture ture which weve we've come to ex expect expect expect ex- ex from other campers Sowe So Sowe Sowe we find ourselves in Manti l al although although al- al though we really hadn't planned planned planned plan plan- I aI-I ned to come this way |
