Show Arthur Carpenter Awarded Eagle Scout Badge I Arthur Carpenter son of Mr and Mrs Gerald Carpenter was awarded his Eagle Scout Badge last ast Sunday evening in the MIA UA session of stake slake conference The badge was presented by George V. V who is the leader of Troop of which Arthur has las been a member for the past four and a half years Arthur presented a miniature Eagle Scout badge to his mother The Eagle award is the highest highest highest high high- est award a 3 young scout may receive In order to achieve this honor Arthur passed 27 merit badges showing unusual persistence since requirements I were changed a year ago when he made application for the avard award a- a award ward vard making it necessary for him to earn six more merit badges In presenting the award Mr 11 commented on the outstanding character traits exemplified exemplified exemplified ex ex- ex- ex in Arthur stating that he had won an individual award each year since being a Deacon that he was an A student and was Always Courteous Arthur is a member of t the h hOrder t Order of Arrow a national Scouting Fraternity which h has a s I he been en in existence in the nation for 30 odd years but has within the past several years been adopted adopted a- a by the Utah National Parks Council He was elected to this group by members of the troop to which he belonged while serving as Jr Staff Member Member Mem Mem- lember ber and instructor in Archery and First Aid at Camp Maple Dell in Payson Canyon for a month last summer In relating his experiences of the initiation to this order Arthur Ar Arthur Arthur Ar- Ar thur explained that he first participated participated participated par par- in a calling out ceremony ceremony emony mony where he was called out of the room and given food and camping equipment to be rolled up in his sleeping bag he was then blindfolded and led to a large bonfire where t the h e group being initiated formed a n circle with backs to the fire then walked paces Here he made his bed and spent t the Ii e night alone lIe He made his breakfast break break- breakfast fast performed a a work detail spoke a word to no one for 16 hours He lie claims the latter ra rather rather ra- ra ther difficult to do but worth the effort |
