Show Joyce W a and arid Carolyn I Merriam Report On Stay A At Annual Girls GirIs StateS State'S First of all we would like i io to 0 thank the American Legion Auxiliary for giving us the op opportunity opportunity opportunity op- op to attend Girls State It was an experience we will remember and cherish forever We Ve would like to share some of the experiences we had with you ou In just one short week we ve learned so much about our ourI I government i Sunday when we arrived at atthe atthe atthe the Utah State Agricultural Col- Col loge in Logan we were given our material for the week and anda a assigned signed to our quarters After we moved in and had unpacked we ve were off to our first meet meet- ing We Ve all went to our city rooms where we became acquainted al h nh th mom b e rs of nr our Y HIl XI e o V LU er i. O JL v. v. v city We Ve had 10 cities this year with 25 or or r 26 members in each city There were girls attending Girls State When this meeting adjourned ve e went to our party county conventions to organize our par par par- ties The party titles were Democracy Dem Dem- cracy County and Freedom County The parties were a 2 Federal and National party In Inthis Inthis Inthis this me meeting Jing we elected our County party officials State central central central cen cen- committeeman and the delegates delegates del del- to the State convention Each party discussed a p party a r l' t Y platform We Ve elected a platform platform platform plat plat- form committee We Ve then took time out for dinner inner What a meal It was must lust delicious In the week that followed each meal was on schedule and very good After lunch we organized our State Slate party and elected all the State party officials We Ve also had a report from the platform committee and our party platform platform platform plat plat- form was adopted 1 We Ve a had really taken care of ofa o v lot of business for one day so now we went to the lounge for a get-acquainted get session 11 11 11 d t n UC e a cu mee mealing ing one an- an other and trying to remember each girls girl's name We Ve also learned the Girls State song The rest of the week this song was heard at every meal once or twice and in be bet between between be- be t tween every meeting Also we started each meeting by first singing the Girls State song Then the first big day came cameto to a close with each city meeting meeting meeting meet meet- ing in the hall to repeat the Lords Lord's Prayer together Then all quiet and lights out Monday At Monday morning a I friendly voice was heard in each room as our adviser went from fromi i room oom to room with a cheery Good morning girls This was the signal for all out and clean quarters quarte Everyone rushed to breakfast and md then to our first devotional The devotional was held at the theL L D S Institute At this meeting meeting meeting meet meet- ing each girl felt very humble I with Gods God's presence very near The messages we received here I were an inspiration to every in individual individual individual in- in I and a guide worth fol fol- fol lowing Each day we learned more and more about our government ith each day devoted to one phase in particular On Monday we learned the essential facts for city organization and operation operation operation opera opera- tion of city government The Th i ogan officials explained tin the duties of each city office We Ve heard from the Mayor layor commissioners commissioners commissioners commis commis- city auditor and chief of police After this each ench city met in ill inthe inthe the city rooms where the primary primary mary Y elections were e held for 1 ff rr 1 Tl 1 f t ci y o s ne I.
