Show Templar Topics By Bruce Jennings Rejuvenation We Ve have this week been in involved involved involved in- in in the rejuvenation of one of the tennis courts The work has been masterminded masterminded masterminded master master- minded by Mr Braithwaite who has las been on the job every spare moment day and night We Ve have lave had the assistance of a aa considerable amount of volunteer volunteer volun- volun teer eer labor And there is as asmore asmore more than one person has re remarked remarked remarked re- re marked something to be learned learn learn- ed from projects of this kind For very often the boy who is very nearly a dud in the class classroom classroom classroom room proves to be on a co cooperative cooperative cooperative co- co operative job of this kind one of the finest citizens of them all Initiations The are arc now officially officially officially a part of the student bo bo- bo dy They have worn outlandish costumes for two days and then performed per ormed their little piece upon upon upon up up- on the stage and now it is all over For most of us it is something something something some some- thing that could be gladly miss miss- ed But the freshmen for all their pretended roles as martyrs martyrs martyrs mar mar- apparently have the thrill of their lives It is freshman initiation and it really happens only once when you are about 14 remember The Hike Last Friday we had t the h e school hike First there was a program about the campfirE I The junior skit won first place I and the freshmen took second And then followed the lighting of the four giant letters on the hill hilI The letters were unusually unusual unusual- ly well done this year The sophomores placed first and the seniors second All in all I thought the judges were very d diplomatic in their distribution of awards After After After Af Af- Af- Af ter the hike we had a dance It was well attended with most of our own students and quite a few Snow College people pre pre- sent The principal climbed wearily into bed about one a a. a m. m and thought wistfully of the 9 to days some people think he lie puts in This kind of activity puts the gray hair on principals' principals heads for usually someone steps thru the hole in the bridge trips over a rock and cracks a front tooth or gets left by the bus But Friday everything went well It reminded me of the school hike one of my fellow principals principals principals pals went on a year or so ago ngo I The me students tOOK along an air I rifle or two a couple of target pistols a 22 and other assorted assort assort- assort I ed toys In the course of the hike two or three kids got hit with lead pellets and a small boy was struck in the seat of the pants with an arrow inadvertently inadvertently advertently ad- ad let loose by some careless upper Well VelI the principal resolved there would be no more of this on the next hike In ln assembly I he warned the students against the various forms of con mis misconduct misconduct misconduct duct that would not be allowed Let me tell you he said that you will carry no weapons weapons weapons wea wea- pons of any kind In fact if any of you show up at nt the hike armed with anything more deadly deadly deadly dead dead- ly than water pistols you will willbe willbe willbe be sent home The students took him at his word They left the deadly weapons at home but every kid in the school attended the school hike armed with a 1 water pistol guaranteed to shoot 30 feet The greatest water fight in the history of Sanpete county county coun coun- ty ensued Principals are fairly intelligent intelligent intelligent intelli intelli- gent people as a rule but they find it real work thinking out-thinking a n group of students o 0 |
