R C. C Anderson Ander Ander- son one morning in the Newhouse Newhouse Newhouse New- New house Hotel Well VeIl R. R C. C seems to know practically everyone of any consequence in the state and after a while he happened to spot Mr and Mrs Lee likewise likewise likewise like like- wise having breakfast Mr Lee wasn't so well known at the time b but t he was in the process of becoming a n highly controversial figure A certain pamphlet called Morals and the Mayor had made its appearance appearance appear appear- ance and numerous stories were going the rounds and Mr Lee was accused of winking at certain certain certain tain evil doings over in Carbon County Well VeIl R. R C. C took us over to meet Mr and Mrs Lee and we shook hands all nIl around And Andin Andin Andin in the process of making conversation conversation con con- I said to Mr Lee I Iguess Iguess Iguess guess you are the man mm we are reading rending so much about in the papers Mr Lee sort of winced but buthis buthis buthis his eyes twinkled He said Yes and pretty soon we went our separate ways The next time I met Mr J Lee was after he became governor I served as a n member of a wel- wel Continued on page 3 Templar Topics Continued from Page One coming committee which greeted him at the local airport After shaking hands Mr Lee got into the c car of a greater dignitary than I. I But I had the privilege of riding into town with t the h e Governors Governor's pilot who proceeded to inform me at some length that Mr Lee is a great man I understand that the Governor shortly thereafter dismissed the pilot which is typical of the ironies of life and may have caused the pilot to change his mind about Mr Lee Well VeIl we had food and entertainment entertainment entertainment enter enter- at the Snow College cafeteria and the Governor talked talked talked talk talk- ed in a plain and earnest way about money and the need for not spending more than you make I thought this good ad advice advice advice ad- ad vice and I pass it on n now w. w The third time I broke fast with Governor Lee was at a luncheon for him and Mrs Lee in our own community One of my Republican friends who shall be nameless called me up and asked me to attend this luncheon so Uso that someone representing the teaching profession pro profession profession pro pro- will be there Well VeIl LaRue LaRue La La- Rue and I attended but by an another another another an- an other of these those ironies of life the friend didn't show up tip at atthe atthe atthe the luncheon We Ve were introduced to the Governor and Mrs l Lee for the second time Ive urve met you before Governor Gover Gover- nor I said but Im I'm sure you dont don't remember me The Governor shook hands and smiled and said he was glad to see me again And I smiled and shook hands too And we listened to the Governor talk again and this time also he talked about money Now I dont don't wish to imply from this that Mr Lee and I Iare Iare Iare are chums I have disagreed with him for a long while in his views on Education and now I find that we dont don't see alike about the United Nations either But I dont don't hate the Governor I dont don't even dislike him per per- There are certain things about him that I admire All AllI I really wish for him is a long and md happy life as a private privat citizen And I am sure in spite of or the fact that he is Governor and I am nm only a humble citizen in disagreement with him that Mr 1 Lee will not try to get me hanged or even have me fired Which is a different state of affairs than in certain countries I could name Now this has been a along l Ion o n g gand gand and meandering discourse and perhaps quite meaningless But on thinking it over I have de decided decided de- de that in a sense it is a tribute to America where the facts are sometimes hidden in inthe inthe inthe the din of the shouting but where in the long run it i ithe is the people the plain and humble ones who eventually get to the bottom of things de decide decide decide de- de cide what is best for all of us and govern This sometimes takes time but it is a process in which I be believe believe believe be- be lieve we can base absolute faith It is something we call demo demo- cracy The High gh School As this is being written school is just getting underway and we have little news for you We Ve will try to be more informative next week I will close with this story A student spent part of his summer vacation working as stage hand in a summer theatre until he made one disastrous mistake The chorus was making making making mak mak- ing a quick change on a dark stage when somebody hollered for tights He thought they said lights o |
