Show Deseret State Stale 4 1 Winners Visit isit Chicago go S STATE TATE HONORS for 1952 have been won by four H 4 Club members in Utah for outstanding work in the National H 4 Canning Dairy Achievement Achievement Achievement Achieve Achieve- ment Food Preparation and Tractor Maintenance programs Their awards are expense all-expense trips to the National H 4 Club Congress in Chicago Brief summaries of their accomplishments follow I a aP f I 4 r I 4 P L I I Claude Blanch Dixie Olsen Olson Gary Hendry Carolyn Manton Marston Proper tractor care has kept the wheels rolling and production up on the Blanch farm in Ogden F For r a job lob well done son Claude 17 was named Utah winner in the H 4 Tractor Maintenance program and will attend Club Congress as guest of Utah Oil Refining Co Claude has devoted three years to the study and practice of tractor operation and maintenance Claude has learned the value of keeping l the tractor in top running condition by the in increased increased increased in- in creased amount of work handled bandied A well-running well tractor has made it possible to double crop production and acreage Besides his project work Claude has been an outstanding outstanding outstanding ing leader as president of th the local county and state 4 H organizations Dixie Olsen 16 of Paradise state winner in Food Preparation has enjoyed enjoyed en en- joyed oyed every moment of her six years in H. 4 Planning selecting and preparing preparing preparing pre pre- paring nourishing foods has been a challenge to this young homemaker Her Tier Chicago trip was presented by Dixie has become an efficient meal planner and has to her credit more than meals and separate dishes cooked and served She has helped prepare and serve food for lor 41 11 banquets and socials serving approximately 1300 people Dixie has learned the need for an occasional occasional occasional oc oc- oc- oc quick meal and has canned quarts of oC fruits and vegetables and frozen 83 pounds of meat poultry vegetables and und fruits Dixie served as president and recreation leader for her local club Gary Hendry 17 of Wellsville has received recognition for excellent work in dairy production and man man- As state winner in the Dairy Achievement program he will attend Club Congress as the guest of Lederle Laboratories A Her 4 for seven years Gary learned the application application application cation of modern methods and the importance of sanitation in the handling of dairy animals Beginning with w-ith one registered Holstein calf a gift from his father he now has seven registered animals three calves being from the original stock By helping his father on the farm he heis is is able to pa pay for the necessary feed For two years he assisted with the herd which won firsts at county and state fairs This year he has been awarded six firsts for his animals Gary has served his club as president for four years and is now a junior leader Top-notch Top achievements in canning canning canning can can- ning won state honors for Carolyn Marston 16 of Kaysville This young homemaker has canned 2302 quarts of oC fruits vegetables and meats and pints of jams and jellies Kerr Glass Mfg Co provided her expense all trip In club work five years Carolyn realizes the value of careful preparation in the foods field She has learned to can foods so that they are pleasing to the eye aswell as aswell aswell well as to the taste This year she won a n complete set of jelly making equipment at the thc county fair and arid received two blue ribbons at the Pacific International as well as numerous other awards Carolyn's canning project has given variety and balance to family m meals eats Active in in her local club this year she led a group of girls in the foods project All these programs programs are conducted under the direction of at the Cooperative VH Extension Service II I I r i r o 11 f. f l i J |
