we were informed by bythe bythe bythe the doctors that our daughter Margaret had every symptom of polio and they advised us to take her to the Salt Lake County County Coun Coun- ty hospital immediately because every minute counted courted we felt very depressed and defeated before before be before be- be fore we ever began the fight We Ve were admitted to the hospital hospital hospital hos hos- pital by trained men in the field of polio who were able through specialized tests to determine determine de determine de- de termine the type and the nature of her case There were many trained nurses and therapists available to us along with respirators respirators respirators res res- if her case should necessitate them It relieved our burden when we found the advances made through research and study in this field Funds Ready if Needed We Ve were asked to register with the Polio Foundation and were told that should we need financial aid it would be given us through the Foundation We Ve were given much help by the trained personnel in explaining the nature of polio the symptoms symptoms symptoms toms and the treatments given for it We Ve were fortunate in an n that Margarets Margaret's case was of a milder nature than than- some and did not require months of hospitalization hospitalization tion the use of iron lungs etc We Ve were able to assume the bills of the hospital and doctors doctors doctors doc doc- tors ourselves leaving funds that are surely needed by people people people peo peo- more seriously affected After the muscles affected were determined we sible Some Cases are Pitiful We Ve also saw many pitiful cases who will require months and years of treatments before they will even be able to help themselves at ill One year old girl became a fast friend of ours She had been in the hospital since August August August Aug Aug- and was still only able to move two fingers She had been in a respirator for weeks but was was leas removed from that It was necessary for her mother to leave a small family at home in inVernal inVernal inVernal Vernal to be with her daughter It was almost heart breaking to see sec the mother stand over her daughter and do all things for her She would have to wipe her daughters daughter's tears feed her and do whatever er she needed needed needed need need- ed done for her The months ahead look long and hard for her and we know the financial burden is much too great for forone forone forone one family to assume Also there were several young Mothers some of them almost helpless others only partially paralyzed But their hr Inn and the tho th fin fin- hearts 1010 were heavy I J u u ancial burden was great A young father and his son lay side by side in the hospital hardly able to do a thing for themselves We Ve know they need help One young boy has been in a respirator for months and it looked as though he would be bethere bethere bethere there for some time to come Through facilities made possible by the Foundation he will be moved to a respirator center where other victims like himself himself himself him him- self can be taken care of by trained rained people Can Happen to You Yau We Ve found this
