S Truman and Gen Douglas MacArthur hur two men who have had much to do with world destiny in inthe inthe inthe the last few years had a talk After it was over a statement was issued which said the two discussed discussed discussed dis dis- cussed a number of subjects vital to 10 world problems According to the press release they talked about reconstruction of Korea the possibility possibility possibility of a Japanese peace treaty and nd the general agreement to strive toward peace in unity with other UN U.N. nations The meeting was of great interest 10 the American public from another er r angle MacArthur and Mr Truman Truman Truman Tru Tru- man had never met and their conflicting conflicting con con- views on a number of subjects subjects subjects sub sub- had been reported in the press during recent months Reports of the meeting indicated that MacArthur had only a general Idea of the topics to be discussed when he was asked to meet the President It was was' also reported that Truman ruman conducted the talks fromn from froman an n agenda scribbled on a pad Observers believed these reports gave an indication of the how and why of the meeting The President I had a number of topics to discuss with the UN U.N. commander and he limited the talks to that agenda It was also suggestive some observers ers rs believed that Mr Truman was acting in his capacity as President and in commander-in-chief and not nots as s a man seeking advice On the surface the meeting was cordial In farewell MacArthur said Good by sir Happy landing It has been a real honor to talk with you But the other MacArthur s seemed med revealed when he said good good good-by by to Gen Omar N N.
