Show I Sanpete p Show Is Acclaimed as Best Balanced in n State One of the best stock shows in inthe inthe inthe the state of Utah and the best balanced balanced balanced bal bal- show with an abundance of outstanding stock in cv every ry division divi divi- sion This was a compliment paid the Sanpete Rambouillet and Junior Livestock Show at Ephraim last week by two leading showmen of or orthe the state It was Wag first stated publicly publicly publicly pub pub- by Elvin Downs assistant state director of vocational agriculture and later was stated to the editor by Sam Gordon ag teacher at Boxelder high school at Brigham City and president of the State Fairs and Shows The Sanpete show this year 0 set seta a record for the number and quality quality quality ity of stock exhibits Prize money awarded in the stock division totaled to totaled totaled to- to nearly half of which went to sheep Sanpete has long been noted as the Rambouillet Rambouillet Ram Ram- Rambouillet bouillet center of the entire world consistently topping all sales for this type of sheep That is one reason the show was started in Sanpete and is also a reason why competition in the sheep classes is isso isso isso so keen and why such outstanding sheep are found at the show in such great numbers Besides th the prize money awarded to sheep exhibitors was awarded award award- ed for fat beef 73 for breeding beef for dairy for swine 58 for horses and for fit fitting fitting fitting fit fit- ting and showmanship prizes I Prize Won Yon by l I Rich Richard rd Jensen Manti member member mem mem- ber had the top mUch cow in the junior division of the show Last year the Salt Lake Tribune purchased a Hereford calf Jack from Wilford of Manti and the animal was awarded to Arlyn Madsen of Ephraim as a prize for his work in the 1949 show He fed and cared for the animal and this year it was judg judged d reserve champion in the FF A di di- di vision Because of the excellent job young Madsen had done in raising the calf to a champion Mr this year gave him another calf brother to Jack Many Attend Banquet Stockmen from all over Sanpete also many FF A and H 4 exhibitors attended the banquet Friday night at which Dr W. C Esplin of the U US USA S A AC C Extension Division also ag teachers and di directors directors directors di- di rectors from Sanpete schools and communities Editors of Sanpete papers were conspicuous by their absence as none of them was invited invited invited in- in or ever has been invited to the banquet in recent years at least Forest Service Wins Vins Top Parade Prize The Saturday parade was good with bands and floats from several towns The float by the Forest Service won top prize for the best original theme It consisted of two trailers One was covered with scrub brush and rocks while the second was covered with an abundance abundance abundance dance of grass in which sheep were contentedly chewing their cuds The brush grass sheep etc were all real The rodeo and other entertainment entertainment entertainment entertain entertain- ment at the grounds Saturday af afternoon afternoon af- af ternO n also was very good and was enjoyed by a large crowd a Mr and Mrs J J. J W. W McAllister and and son Dale and Mr and Mrs Wells McAllister and family of Provo were guests at the Alphonso Henrie home part of last week end Mr and Mrs Elmer Sorensen and daughter of Delta were in Manti visiting with relatives the first of the week guests of Mrs Leslie Madsen Daughter Carol Dawn stayed on this week as a guest of Miss Pauline Madsen |
