Show 1 DELINQUENCY OF SANPETE CO HOLDS UP PROGRAM Sanpete County is expected to lift the ban to state help for general relief relict assistance in the near future futuro Negotiations Negotiation are going forward between bo- bo tween county and state authorities and it Is thought that satisfactory arrangements will be made within withla a few days so that no loss will occur to anyone because of the present de de- U quency Last week the State Board of or Public Welfare ruled that Sanpete County among others because they were In arrears on their 15 percent payments could not receive further state slate aid under the law la lafor for general relief Assistance to the aged abed the needy blind and dependent children children children child child- ren is not affected by this ruling and will be maintained as long as the tho state can bear the burden whether the county pays Its bank back dues duelS or not The relief program In which the county was to pay 16 15 per cent and the state and federal government 85 per cent was started in July of 1937 Tn rn that year Sanpete had not budgeted budgeted bud bud- eted for this expense and no levy leV had nad been made consequently no money was available for the purpose Lt t was for this reason that a delinquency do- do developed from July 1 to Dec 31 of about For Forthe Forthe Forthe the year 1938 a levy le was made of at 5 mills to meet this added expense which amounted to about per month All payments to date Cate for Cor 1938 have boen been made to the state tate department but the 1937 obligation obligation ob ob- remains unpaid It Iq this delinquency that has caused the State Board of ot Welfare to take Us Its ta present stand Sanpete County officials point out that that they have done all they could to meet the tho situation and havo shown their willingness to meet their part of the agreement by matting maKing matt maK- ing all the payments it has been possible for them to do They also 1 point out that had tho the taxes been boen paid in full lull for 1938 they woula would nave had about to pay on the 1937 indebtedness As It was about 30 per cent of or the taxes wore un un- un- un paid This Is the situation situation as It now stands The county has no money on hand band to meet this obligation If the State st s stands ds on Its Us ruling those receiving receiving- general relief in Sanpete County will lose about 1600 per month |
