Show A 1 PEOPLE it hardly seem necessary to categorically set forth the reasons why as a people americans are thankful this of november we have good reasons to be thankful we have civil and religious liberty which no dictator nation enjoys one can complain in print about any gerseon high or low whereas in dictator countries the press is muzzled in free expression and prints only what the censor wills or permits we have opportunity the poor man can work up and become one of the rich we have spiritual freedom a member of one faith can follow that faith undisturbed by even its bitterest enemy there is freedom in belief and no great clash when opposites meet one may speak politically with freedom not retire into a field or lock the two in a sound proof cement house for fear of listeners in who might report to the gustap po materially the nation as a whole has had good crops locally we ourselves have had above an average with some nice yields higher even than that so that we have much to be in thankful mood for and of course we are thankful that up to the present our boys and men have not been drafted to stop german bullets that in itself is enough for a good day of sincere thanksgiving Thank giving what a sorry mix up old country is in suspicion fear no liberties secret informers on all hands prying spying on friends working off old secret grudges and no one safe those of us who compare notes find much to be thankful for true we dont know what day to celebrate but some few of us are old fogies anyway and will cling to the former date the and kill the great american bird that lay day |
