Show CHRONICLE lenti EIGHT beirs OLD july ath the chronicle was twenty eight years old on july ath 1910 norman B dresser published the first issue in that time delta has grown from a miserable little scattered hamlet to a town doing a good business any saturday afternoon proves that in if memory serves the writ er without fault one oue was possibly the full number of automobiles here and that owned by the delta land water company today they are parked sometimes two deep before the business houses radio of course in those days gasn wasn t used A photo taken in 1914 shows a small little town trees were mere sticks it any at all three buildings were on the south side ot of clark street it was the city of magnificent distances the first the writer had of the town clark street was merely a place where the brush had been recently railed off it its s tun lun to look back on the old I 1 them hem good old days are the way its it s expressed POOI pool er than church mice we had no relief and komenow oro tiler people were then willing to alse elbow grease and use it to get along themselves I 1 hat is probably the most striking du terence between then and now from the little start a constant growth had gone forward well pleasing to all in that growth the chronicle praises those who did it business houses and individuals larm ers and others let that growth ever be a spur to yet greater achievements we take this occasion near our birthday to condrat all older than in the community and to cheer the entire rising generation to carry on the good work their dads set example tor for |
