Show COUNTY AGENT statement of policy millard county weed committee has set the following policy tor for weed control during 1938 the county weed committee in fists on eradication of all weeds on all idle land ditch banka banks fence lines and waste land by eith er periodic bl weekly biweekly clean tion or by the use of chemicals by the term eradication Is meant handling the weeds in a businesslike way as indicated by periodic by week clean cultivation or use of chemicals the county weed committee will insist on absolute control of noxious weeds to prevent them from seeding on crop land or in growing crops by absolute control Is meant that no noxious weed seed shall mature on crop land or in growing crops A stipulated price of 12 00 per acre which shall include plowing and by weekly clean cultivation until november 1st was set as the price for weed control during the crop year of 1938 where a farmer cho choi toses oses to do his own cultivation during any part of the year he may do so however he may have county equipment plow his land at the rate of 1 60 50 per acre or cultivate two ways at the rate of 1 00 per acre insect control 1 I A recent insect pest survey shows that we can expect considerable crop damage this season beason due to insects at the present time many alfalfa and grain fields are being injured by cut worm worms regular grasshopper bran bait can be used effectively to control cut worms an old fashion ed barb wire drag of the type tor for merly used tor for alfalfa weevil control can be used very on cut worms k since cut worms come to the sur face to teed feed when it Is dark drag ging should be done when the major ity of the worms are out this will usually be from 10 to 11 0 clock at night until just before daylight there is plenty of grasshopper bait available to start poisoning grass hoppers as soon as they biatch F far r mers are urged to report hatching of grasshoppers to the county agent grasshopper should be poisoned on their hatching ground while they are still in colonies george co abt |
