farmers can use turkeys to good advantage for control measures tor for grasshoppers however on some crops they cannot be used without doing considerable damage poison bait will be available in a few days in the county agent s office and any one wishing it can obtain it to scat seat ter tor for grasshopper control we would like to urge the farmers blose crops are threatened to cornei como and list their needs and get some in formation on control the creeo stink bug is the insect wl ich fell took most of the grain crops in 35 and many ot of the alfalfa sc crops on the west wet side of the count this particular insect la Is now sh show w ing up in count leess numbers ain many of the tumbleweed patches I 1 in the farm areas many of them could id b destroyed by burning the tumble b e f weed it if this particular insect start rig on the crops the old fashioned bal loon grasshopper catcher can be ged up and used quite effectively or a piece of canvas ten to fifteen feet long and about tour four feet in width soaked with kerosene and threaded with a rope drawn across the hay or grain fields by men dien or saddle horses will often drive the insects out of the field the alfalfa weevil Is doing con sid erable damage in many fields of east millaid some farmers are go ing to lose as much as one halt half ton of hay to the acre last week mr roy davies dusted the alfalfa fields on tle me hansen tarn farm south of flowell and this dusting has proved very effective I 1 would estimate estl mat that 95 per cent of the alf alfalfa ifa weevil have been killed and a good crop of hay will now be insured on this farm mr davies reports that the cost of dusting was per acre tor for the material farmers wishing help on weevil control should visit this particular farm arm and see the results |
