Show the Haupt hauptmann maian verdict by LEONARD A BARRETT regardless of ones one s personal opinion of the verdict of the jury in the haupt mann case it Is clearly evident that justice has been vindicated and the public mind satis fled the mills of the gods grind slow ly but they grind exceedingly small J just u s t so shylock demands his of flesh but finally Is forced to sub nut mit to the demands of justice justice may be seasoned with mercy but it must first be vind bated obedience Is liberty and disobedience Is slavery the cosmic world Is vocal R with ith its ilsun un alterable decree violation ot of law de mands punishment every person who refuses to conform to natures laws pays the penalty interrupt nature in her process of development and we have chaos and confusion use her laws by working in conformity with them and we have the radio airship etc in the world of moral values the same law dominates murder or what ever the crime may be is always a violation of the fixed order of the moral world no person can escape he may be acquitted through the thwarting of justice in a criminal court but u ulal t he must pay the penalty which may be the sting of his own con science or the penalty will have to be paid in other ways we know not of aside from the fact that the majesty of the law has been upheld and the crime avenged it does not right the wrong certainly the decision of the court should not be made a travesty by having the jurors re enact the court scene in vaudeville for the paltry sum of 3 it should not be done for any consideration the public mind will undoubtedly react unfavorably to such a proceeding proceed mg furthermore the decision does not riot restore to the family circle the absent child perhaps th s Is the sacrifice which some one had to make in order that public conscience might be aroused and other innocent children protected from such a cruel fate a western Ne newspaper union |
