Show 1934 ES TO BE GOOD SEED I 1 beir E IR I 1 various factors have contributed ft this year year toward t tie ie production of another big alfalfa seed crop irl ir toils county in the first place the weather has been ideal some years in the past frost has arrived early and it if it held off until the tenth of sep that was the utmost to be hoped tor for this year the tenth passed bright and dry and the good er held until last saturday the cold weather commenced then with one of the biggest and worst dust storms ever here lasting all day on sunday considerable rain tell fell on monday and on tuesday night the thermometer dropped to 24 and on wednesday night to 21 the trost frost did considerable damkot although all the second crop seed had been cut and mostly threshed but a number of farmers had third crop haj ha that to their surprise had hurled buried into the burr and it was ex peeked that a large amount of sted would produce there if the weather warf as mild enough until about novt 1 and the seed was able to mature one farmer even reported that be he had burrs on a fourth crop in this year of depression and drouth this very welcome seed crop has raised the flagging spirits of us all by about 1000 per cent and once again broad smiles may be seen on the faces of the farmers the seed crop this year was two and one halt half million pounds proba baly better than that the prices soon ran to around twenty cents and up A number of farmers sold at 22 23 and so one with a great many get ting 24 cents and even some 25 over two thirds of the crop has been threshed and sold at the pre ent and about has come into the community and is now beginning to through the arteries of trade the price this year was very good higher than it has been for any year excepting possibly one happy year when some sold tor for 36 cents and even 38 in 1925 this community raised 14 pounds of seed which sold between 10 and 15 cents seven buyers were here this fall cornelli seed st louis bagnall seed peppard seed kansas west land occidental salt lake ward moody delta for moody brothers and philadelphia seed mrs B F P sampson and her daughter roe ann spent everal days in salt lake city this week where roe ann visited an eye spec falast mrs airs J D damron from city arrived in delta wednesday night for a visit with her daughter mrs spencer wright she drove down fiam the city with her nephew oscar kelly of oasis who was re turning to his home n oish oasis wells starley returned to his home in fillmore during the past week I 1 from los angeles and sacramento where he took hij parents mr air and mrs J J starley on a trip mr arlisha lowery loery from sterling Is here visiting her daughters mrs jesse works and mrs E works of delta and mrs swenson of hinckley mr and mrs airs jewel works and their son visited here this week with mr air and mira ed works they are from boulder city where they have been making their home mrs george corry made the trip here with them and visited her parents mr air and mrs ed works club met on thurs night of the past week at the hom lam m of mrs jo pratt with ten of th the bembers present election of of timers tor for the coming year was held as follows mrs lillian killpack president mi ali nola colby vice president pies ident mrs mo yvonne church sec see stetary and mrs erma works re porter after tl il e business was con eluded refreshments were served dr and mrs D C evans of fill more v ere delia delta visitors this week judge dilworth woolley of manti was a visitor in delta thedac mrs A roy ray monson ot of payson accompanied mr air monson on one of his hit recent trips here mr and mrs layton have hats j aft M 12 seit sept 2 sa 6 |
