Show GROUP CROUP TO MEET IN S L TO CONSIDER COLO RIVER GREAT BASIN PROJECT county commissioners and civic leaders of sevier sanpete San pete millard juab tooele thoele duchesne uintah utah box elder cache and salt lake counties will meet at the newhouse hotel in salt lake city on may 15 at 9 a in to discuss the colorado river great basin irrigation and power project the meeting Is being called by officials of the associated civic clubs ot of southern utah and will be attended by representatives ot of the counties which are most effected rep J W pace of 0 delta and F M lyman of holden will represent millard county at the meeting at the meeting ways and means of 0 obtaining the greatest possible benefits tor for utah from the colorado river and boulder dam act will be decided upon it is expected that an organization to permanently sponsor and promote any feasible power and irrigation projects will be formed according to james at sargent president of the associated clubs renewed action on this action was caused by the announcement in washington D C that the boulder dam act was about to be amended to give utah a total of for study survey and construction of projects over a period of 18 years the proposed change it ft Is estimated would benefit california approximately each year it v also understood that the a ment ment may prohibit utah from taking water out ot of the colorado river drainage basin and transfer it into the great basin as had been considered further it seems doubtful that even though the original boulder dam act gives the upper basin states protection tor for their water rights in the river tor for 50 years they could expect to retain those rights alter after the water has been put to beneficial use elsewhere the new organization it if ormed formed will not interfere with the utah water storage commission but will be similar to the water users association that successfully promoted the deer dee creek project |
