Show 0 FILLINI FILLMORE ORE SCOUTS ENJOY OUTING monday morning july we scouts ot of the first ward under tho the direction ot of scout leaders and alexander left tor for the scout camp at big johns flat werbach ed the camp about 3 p in where we were thrilled with the sight that met our eyes A number ot of troops had already arrived and had their camps laid out practically all the shady places were taken but we were informed that we would not suffer with the heat while there we selected a long ridge upon which to locate we were directly across from the entrance to the flat and therefore commanded quite a view we arranged our two toned tents in fit a straight line and were soon oon settled our tents were the outstanding group as tar far as being uniform was concerned A few of us were disappointed a little at first because we figured on oil a fishing trip but after the second day all were content and more than anxious to enter into all that the camp offered in the way ot of development the first evening our troop volunteered ered to lay a log cabin tire fire for or the opening camp tire fire meeting dr pfouts lighted the ire fire by flint and steel and it was to be the mother tire fire for the rest of the camp no one was to use a match to light his own camp fire after that and I 1 believe that the scouts in general followed those instructions pretty well at each camp tire fire assembly a log loe was your ticket and each person in camp was to bring one among the scout officers from the north were derrll Christo pherson f symour fy mour dr pfouts vert verl JJ J johnson anson and a scout who acted as camp cook and handy leandy man mail tor for mr air Christo pherson it was his big pleasure to awaken the boys in the morning with his torii tom tom call them to assembly and send them to bed at night our second day was spent in a hips of about live five miles felt more like 9 to putters lake where wo we fished and swam it was a long hard hike but how interesting we followed a government trail and at every stop slop the lead troop would drop out and bring up the rear thus giving each troop an opportunity to lead the group many abany pictures were taken ot of the group as it slowly moved along the trail looking more like a giant serpent than anything else wednesday was spent in camp it was stormy but the boys were all happy they spent their time practicing on oil their scout activities which were to take place friday morning thursday morning the entire group hiked to the summit of mt alt belknap teet feet above sea level it was a thrilling sight although the sky was hazy and dark we could see in all the surrounding valleys A storm broke when the group started back hall and rain came down in torrents and every person was completely soaked there was not a dry thread on anyone in spite ot of this every scout had the scout smile and everyone was happy friday was to be spent in a scavenger hunt and scout contest we got through with the hunt all right but the contest was held back until evening on account of storm in spite of the very heavy storms our muslin tents kept us dry brother D bushnell and a few of his associates came up from deaver beaver friday night and were present when we had our contest we were surely glad to see him our boys did some very tine fine work and ranked among the lead lit in tills this contest in the evening we held our last scout assembly where each troop was jl r zar supposed to give some form of en cn jt our boys came through 1 very fine we pantomimed panto mined a song and did a little skit and the villian still mill pursued her in three speeds each morning an inspection squad selected from the various troops went their rounds in camp inspection our camp rated highest every morning but one which gave us the highest average this gave us the privilege of setting off the fire works after tile the closing program was tills this a thrill for or the boys that was what they were working tor for we met a lot of new friends and hopi to be able to greet them with too coop a noonie which means in indian 1 I am your friend there were four bishops and one stake president present throughout the week W wish to thank the parents ot of the boys who helped and made it possible for them to go we need you boys and you need this work more we are interested in all boys and invite and encourage all of 0 you to join us there la is plenty ot of entertainment and fun for you hut but above all we want all of 0 you to join us for or the good that comes from scouting the holden troop through previous arrangements was compelled to leave camp wednesday night they were loath to leave and wo we hated to se them go kanosh likewise had to leave thursday morning they were good sports about the disappointment and lett left early and hiked to the top ot of mt alt delano too coop a noodle to you kanosh and holden may we enjoy more outings with you in the future |
