Show FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR JOSEPH D SMITH funeral services were held in fillmore sunday february 17 tor for jos eph D smith 89 who died at his bis home in feb 14 ot of complications resulting from a tall fall suffered buttered a short time after christmas the deceased who was the first patriarch to be ordained in the mantl manti temple was born at margaretting Marga retting tye england may 6 1846 18 4 6 and became a member ot of the L D S church at an early age ills early youth was spent on a farm arm in england ile he emigrated to utah in 1866 crossing the plains with the captain daniel thompson company his father died at wan ship while on the trip he was married to mary frampton in wyoming who died in 1888 lie he later married adeline brunson who beld in 1919 after which he married jano stephenson of 0 nepal upon his bis arrival in utah he be set tied in fillmore whore where ho he had resided until 14 years ago when he moved to nepal active in L D S church work be had served a mission to england from 1885 to 1887 and was laten a biship high priest driest member ot of the high council and later a patriarch to which office he was ordained at the dedication of the mantl manti temple in a civic capacity he had served as millard county assessor and yeas veas y aurer and as mayor and councilman of fillmore at different times he had operated general merchandise stores at fillmore and Ale meadow adow after which he traveled through southern utah representing several manufacturers surviving are his widow and 13 sons and daughters joseph S smith mrs lols lois viele and mrs airs john rowley fillmo fellmore re charles D lorenzo 1 lewis and john smith and mrs airs harold kirkman kerkman salt lake city david and daniel smith idaho falls idaho porker smith of san diego calif myrtle smith now new york city and james sanith ot of nepal the speakers speaker sAnt pt the services were james A kelly alonzo robison Rob lson T dark clark callister Cal llster and bishop brunson the choir sang oh my father 1 I know that my redeemer lives with mr yemen vernon peterson Pe torson as soloist and farewell all earthy honors mrs airs olive B partridge played a violin solo A perfect day bishop jesse bennett of meadow offered the opening prayer and brother ot of nepal pronounced the benediction the services were conducted by bishop brunson funeral services were also hold held in nepal saturday all the children were here except miss myrtle smith who Is in new york city and mr park smith who was ill at his home in san diego 0 0 mrs alice warner came down from salt lake to attend the services returning sunday evening with mr air and mrs charles smith mr air and mrs airs van rowley and mr and mrs lawrence rowley were here to attend the funeral of their grandfather three of mrs violes sons and one daughter came in to attend the ser vices while mr and mrs john smith were here they received a telegram telling of the birth of a son to their daughter olene and hor her husband in salt lake city |
