be kept in good condition otherwise jhb corn crop will be very materially it is absolutely necessary that pollination take place before any corn can develop corn earworm may be controlled by one of the following sprays or lusts dusts cabor spray at the rate of 0 one pound to 25 gallons of water A thorough wetting of the corn tassels cassels and abels ot of the leaves Is important dusting with equal parts ot of calcium arsenate and sulphur or dusting without the sulphur is effective the dust may bo be applied with a two quart fruit jar with a piece of 0 cheese cloth or similar material placed over the top and the dust shaken out on the cassles lassies and silk it Is necessary to repeat the application about every five days two or three applications have been made several rotenone are many places in the state where for or long periods the temperature is below freezing and the extreme temperatures might be 10 0 15 20 or 30 degrees below zero in these same localities the temperature may be 80 or 90 degrees above zero in the heat of the summer these varying temperatures indicate that our buildings should be so constructed ted as to meet a temperature range of at least degrees every house should be properly insulated front from intense heat and intense cold by insulation is meant that the house should be constructed from some material so that the walls are not readily penetrated by intense heat or intense cold but will maintain an even and pleasant temperature no matter what the weather conditions may be without the ordinary frame rame bouso whose wals walls are made of two by four studs building paper and siding lath and plaster on the inside lath and plaster on the ceiling and possibly no ii upper per covering on the ceiling joice is not adapted to the rigorous weather of this locality still there are hundreds hundred of houses built under this plan of construction with the result that in the summer the house Is hot and in the coldest weather of winter the house Is kept at a livable temper only with great difficulty anti am with the consumption of 0 large a ts ot of fuel one man lias has said that thai the fuel bill for or heating the houses of at utah might be cut at least a quarter of a million dollars each year it the house remodeled to give this new insulation the cost ot of giving the house a new insulation would otten often be paid lor for in the saving of fuel for a single year this is giving no consideration to the lie increasing comfort and health that would corne come to its occupants generally all earthy material such as brick adobes acobes and cement are the insulators often the walls are well insulated and the ceiling and roof are neglected this is indicated in the summer by the intense heat in low bungalow houses or upper tipper roo rooms ms of two story houses and in winter by the rapid melting of snow over the living room when snow is rapidly melting on the root roof after each new fall there is a the best indication of poor insulation A well insulated root roof will show no immediate melting of snow as a result of 0 the heat emanating from the house itself A double covering of shingles will help in this insulation but better still there should be an insulation over the ceiling any one ving living in a house poorly insulated should investigate schedule I 1 of the housing act which permits a loan to Ing insulate either and old or a new house |
