Show louisa maria tanner lyman louisa maria taner lyman the daughter of 0 john and lydia stewart tanner born november 28 1818 at bolten warren county new york A delicate bule bulo eyed od girl baptized and confirmed la in the mormon church dec 25 1832 by orson pratt in lake george an orphan at six and one halt years of age in winter ot of 1833 and 34 with amaly family moved to kirtland ohio where on june 10 1835 1836 she married amass M lyman she shared the history and fate ate ol of the church in ohio missouri illinois and in the pioneer movements to utah in those early days of hardship and poverty uncomplainingly was a pioneer also to san Der nardino calif 1851 returning to utah in 1858 locating in cedar deaver beaver fillmore tofele tooele and salt lake city she had eight children and raised six orphans in 1887 mrs lyman tor for sixty eight days was visiting the waste places of zion alon in the east and spent six weeks with her sister mrs matilda randall handall from whom she had been separated over sixty years yeara she made this journey when she was sixty nine years of age being her last great journey in company with her elder son francis marion the latter years of her life she lived with her son francis marion lyman and her daughter mrs L josephine coombs during her twenty nine years ot of widowhood in tooele thoele and salt lake city where she died may 3rd ard 1906 at the ripe age ot of eighty seven years and six months at that time her posterity numbered two hundred fourteen tour teen her children six girls and two boys were matilda francis marion ruth adelea amasa mason jr and agnes hilda five of 0 her girls preceded her in death she lived and died a loving constant wife fe and n d mother A true woman and d a devout latter day saint she sha endured patiently the hardships ot of pioneer and frontier life ike in poverty all her days she was a renowned economist hopeful and resourceful and never discouraged her charity ity and womanly virtues never fail ailed the gay social life alte of fillmore has hag left a pleasing memory chere there was wag such a good fellowship feeling permeating all gatherings orand grand would often make her appearance alpe pe arance at the dances husking bees fruit drying socials and other industry bees that they had such as quilting etc grandmother had done the work of a nurse an undertaker a a dressmaker dress maker a dyer and was consulted a great deal tor for all household questions she did this the least at fillmore because there was the least call for or this at that time she died without sickness an it was difficult to tell when her spirit took its departure mrs lyman was wag an intimate a of the prophet joseph smith and his patriarch Patr earch brother hyrum and the family and all the early leaders of the church my mother was the sixth child ot of grandfather and grandmother lyman sho she was born in san bernardino jan 21 1852 married edwin bartholomew tholo mew at fillmore dec 25 26 1871 mrs airs emily ray was married the same day and was always my mothers nearest and dearest friend As near as I 1 can learn my parents began their married life in a little log house on the land my father has always owned my oldest brother and sister were born in that log house and I 1 heard my mother say the happiest years of her life were spent there this copy Is taken mostly from an article written by francis marion lyman who wrote it tor for the daughters of the utah pioneers and their mothers submitted by mrs clare phelps |
