Show dairyman sees hope in industry by drastic culling factors which should give the dairy farmers banners of utah new hope are arc pointed out by prot prof george B calne caine head of 0 the dairy department of 0 the utah state agricultural college as follows A rise of five cents per pound in the price ot of butterfat butter tat on the san francisco market A rise ot of 46 cents per case for canned milk holdings ot of butter in the united states have decreased pounds since march 1 1932 or from pounds to pounds although there were more cows on farms arms of this country on april 1 0 of this year than on the same date in 1932 the production is not so high professor calne caine pointed out tills this Is probably due to a late spring with the large number of dairy cows on hand the production might be overdone unless some steps are taken tor for curtailment he said in denmark the farmers are arc killing a definite number of cows each week so fo that by now they will have reduced their cow population to a normal number they can see that carrying a large number of low producing cows that help to increase their over prodoc tion and force the price still lower Is very poor economy professor cabnet suggests some similar plan tor for this country in states where dairy herd improvement pro associations are carried 0 on n arts 1 Vr ats ts show that 13 per cent ot of 11 it avs tested in the associations are it is this group of co cc that should be eliminated said professor calne caine it the authorities at washington decide on a polley policy the dairy farmers may be forced to list his cows lor for production and then bell a certain number of them to the butcher it if they do not como come up to a profitable standard |
