Show CHEVROLET TO OPERATE ASSEMBLY LINE AT FAIR installation of equipment for the assembly of automobiles at A century ot of progress exposition at chicago has already been started by the chevrolet motor company W S knudsen president and general manager aw announced bounced today complete installation will be effected well in advance of the scheduled opening of the 1933 worlds fair around june 1 mr air knudsen said assuring visitors that they will be able to see an automobile built up from the bare frame to the completed car A balcony seven feet above the assembly line and erected in circular form so that visitors may walk completely around the line and watch every operation in the building ot of a modern automobile has been provided mr r knudsen said machinery is identical with that used in chevrolets lets eight other assembly plants except that the conventional vent ional overhead i conveyors will be replaced by floor type conveyers to bring parts to the desired place along the e line Ala machines chines will be finished in silver with green trim and will be manned by about workers in white uniforms production of 25 or 30 30 cars a day is planed two body types coaches and sedan swill be built on the master alaster chevrolet wheelbase regular inspection posts will check every operation along the line and the cars will be driven out under their own power tested put through final inspection spec tion and may be purchased on the spot and driven home by their new owner E L wright has been named manager of the assembly plant by mr air knudsen and is to remain in that capacity tor for the duration of the worlds fair mr air wright has been I 1 with chevrolet eleven years and for or eight years served as manager of 0 the assembly plant chevrolet formerly operated at janesville wise I 1 air W right began the installation 0 of equipment march 20 and expected to have the line completed and ready for testing by the end of 0 april chevrolet is the only company which will operate an automobile assembly line at the fair mr knudsen said the daughters of the old mill camp met thursday at mrs airs lilly rogers mrs airs rogers and may alay entertaining the primary held its may alay festival wednesday night in the first ward amusement hall A program which included one act plays eventuated the evening the characters participating in colorful costumes planned d tor for the evenings entertainment the stake officers mrs airs edna poulson mrs airs thad johnson mrs airs george croslin and mrs airs ll hawthorne athorne from attended the party after which the stake board meeting was held |
