Show U OP U observatory TO BE OPENED TO PUBLIC by popular request ro the university of utah observatory will bo be held bold open to tho general public every tuesday between tho the hours 0 at 8 30 and 9 30 P al tho the telescope will be adjusted and trained upon tho the most important heavenly bodies so that till nil who aro are interested may without charge view the plan ete system on thursday Thur nights the observatory will bo be open only to students registered in astronomy it will remain open for tho the remainder of tho the school year every tuesday and thursday the tha weather permits the adjusting of tho the telescope tolee copo and all observations will bo be under the direct supervision of professor david R allen alien instructor in astronomy who has planned to give hla his time to the observatory in explaining the afao various phenomena as observed A great many people both student stua oitt and public seem to atko a great in dorest in this work aud and have hav expressed express s 0 d their hoir micas pleasure at being able to mako maka use of the observatory and its ita equipment the telescope housed in the observatory la Is ono one of the best beat and largest in the intermountain west having a six inch lens ions it Is one 0 of tho the most mo me rn having an electrically operated clock to direct its movement so eo that once focused upon an object it will follow fall ovi it through its orbit tho the telescope was purchased about eight years ago by the state university and has been bean in constant uso use since that time astronomy Is again being taught at the university this year by professor allen alien after being discontinued tor for a year due to professor allen alien being away on sabbatical leave many naw nsw ow and interesting points were brought back by professor allen alien however so BO that a great deal la Is to be ba learned about tho the solar system |
