Show snow now shortage on local W water watersheds P beds heds art forest frt ranger jensen recently received information regarding the 1 con condition ot of local watersheds which confirms current opinion that there has not boon been sufficient iclene snowfall snow fall tall this sea season soll tile tho latter part of january two cattlemen tram ram neld mr Q 0 bloomquist and mr air niels jopson rode tor for cattle at tho the head ot of meadow creek and white pino on the west slope of 0 the forest and cottonwood and deer creek on the east slope they find any cattle but they made nix an investigation ot of snow conditions which aro are worthy ot of noto note they report that on the higher range at about feet elevation there Is approximately 3 feet ot at snow and that on the lower or about toot foot elevation there to 1 but 2 feet of snow at both elevations the snow allow Is very loose and light apparently patently ly ot of very low water content the findings ot of these gentlemen may more easily bo be understood whon when compared with the following report of nix an investigation made in our neighborhood by the united states department of agriculture the report is as follows snow dope figures on snow depth taken at tho the end of january at three elevations in Eph Ephra ralin lirt canyon manu manti national forest have been received at the summit of the mountain feet the depth is 41 inches which la Is ono one inch below normal and fieve inches less than this time last year the water content of at 1006 Is 45 46 inches below normal and throe three inches below last year twelve hundred feet lower at the experiment station in ili the aspen zone the depth is 34 inches which la is seven beven inches below normal and six eix inches below last year the water content Is relatively lower being inches jhc which h Is inches below normal and inches below tile the water content or of last year in iii the oak brush zone at beet elevation there to is 24 inches of snow water content not taken anthe the snowfall in this athla region at the end of december Decer obyr was waa relatively higher than almost anywhere else in the state and presumably the same relationship still holds so BO that the tact fact that the snow enow in only a little deficient here bore does not mean that this is generally true |
