Show WE SLASHES HE HIT ff PRESIDENT WILL MAKE NO announcement AS TO VETO UNTIL BILL IS PROP PROPERLY PRESENTED coolidge regards As very undesirable some of the amendments made to tax bill by U S bonate washington president coolidge let it be known tuesday that he regards as very undesirable some ot or the amendments made to the tax bill by the senate senate organization republicans agreed at a conference tuesday to seek a compromise on the democratic surtax rates voted into the re veline bill monday at a maximum rate of 32 per cent and if this fails to go per cent the house schedule amendments viewed by the president as particularly undesirable are those relating to taxation of corporations and to publicity of income income tax returns these amendments he regards as more desirable than the substitution ution of the simmons surtax rate as voted tuesday by the senate the position of the president pres dent on the revenue measure was declared at the white house tuesday to be substantially ly unchanged namely firm adherence to the mellon plan without compromise of its essential provisions inquiry as to whether the senate changes might lead the president to veto the bill brought the reply that mr coolidge does not feel that an no lio of executive action should be made until a bill is before him for consideration in its entirety any announcement would bo be particularly inopportune at the present time inthe presidents belief because of the possibility that the measure may yet undergo considerable change not only in the senite senate but in conference |
