Show WOOLEN SM A S H PREVIOUS unprecedented prosperity REPORTED AT ANNUAL convention president declares period of depression ion U usually bally foll follows ws prosperity and advises Sheep men to prepare for reaction salt lake City With an attendance which Is said to make it the largest livestock convention ever held la in this country the fifty second annual meeting of 0 the national wool growers association was opened here on thursday more alore than 1000 persons including sheep men government experts wool buyers rep representatives resea ot of li vesto k companies railroad 11 livestock v es t dek agents and others 11 interested te were in the city thursday n night I 1 during every hour of the convention sessions thursday tile the attendance increased the crowd at the opening being by far the tag largest in the history of the association t on the annual address of frank J hagenbarth 0 of salt lake president ot of tho the association and lead head of the thal wood livestock company was the most important feature of the days program clearly and concisely mr hagenbarth outlined the developments in fix the sheep industry since the last convention fourteen mont months s ago an and from these summaries ho he deducted conclusions clu and presented suggestions and advice which received the enthusiastic approval of the woollen wo olmen mr hagenbarth reviewed tho the unprecedented grece dented prosperity which had come to the sheep industry during tile the past year but took occasion at the same time to sound a warning periods d s of dep depression re assion he be said al most invariably followed such unusual prosperity and lie he proposed that sheep men devote some of the alie made at this time to preparing their business for the reaction better and more improved methods were urged as an absolute necessity in the future it woollen are re to bo be successful taking up the homestead bill which Is now pending before congress and which has already passed the lower house air fr hagenbarth expressed the belief that it was a bad piece of legislation 4 1 tion while favoring homestead I 1 ing n g lie he said he believed there was danger in permitting homesteaders to tako take up every available acre Ms as much of it was unfitted tor for agricultural development when frank J hagenbarth as president opened the second days session of the national Wool growers association on friday morning 1200 sheep men and persons identified with the s sheep heep industry were present mr air hagenbarth called attention to the fact that large sums of money have ha ve been accumulated in salt lake banks and that it is ready to be loaned at 7 to 8 per cent for long periods for the development of the sheep industry stimulation of interest in co opera tion formed the chief subject for the afternoon session of the association addresses advocating affiliation with the national wool warehouse storage age company were delivered by john D holladay president atthe of the company frank R gooding former governor of idaho J E bowers of nelena helena mont james 11 moyle of salt lake and 1 F J hagenbarth president of the national Wool growers association j 0 resolutions in which ald aid of the government is sought in financing a campaign against rabid coyotes and the spread of 0 hydrophobia in western states were presented on saturday salt lake city at the closing cession on oil january 16 15 of the national al a association it was waa do aided that a mamil mammoth loth ram sale bale and sheep show would be held in salt lake laka from september 4 to 9 inclusive executive autive officers were directed to make arrangements tor for tile sheep show and to select a suitable site bite in salt lake the show will be given in salt lake in connection with the annual convention ot of tile the association which this year Is scheduled to take place here in september also in connection with a vigorous legislative campaign which will be directed toward obtaining classification of the public domain in order that ranges bo be given better bette r pr protection ot ec the establishment of a nonpartisan tariff commission and matters kindred to the sheep industry a committee of IWO was selected in order to give members of this committee every opportunity port unity to convince congress that it owes early attention to sheep conditions nearly was subscribed shortly before the close of tile the convention as a working fund it was announced that it Is the intention to swell this fund to S W mcclure salt lake and frank D miracle helena irelena mort mont were vere reelected elected re secretary and treasurer respectively ively at the meeting of the executive board which ch fol followed lovied the adjournment journ ment of the convention |
