Show r ETTING ACOUA WITH OURSELVES statewide state wide interest in utah day assures success of movement that much to utahna interest in the observance of utah day which has been proclaimed by governor spry for april 26 25 Is ex tended to every corner of the state and in a general way the success of tho the movement which originated with the utah cevelo development ment league mid and the newspaper editors of the state Is already assured many of the important features of this day will nelll bo be tho mailing of post cards and letters to friends and acquaintances of outside states along this line the commercial club publicity bureau of salt lake will send out more than post cards on this day while the commercial lal organizations of other towns cill will probably send send out an equal number the post ost card idea while it to Is a good one so tar as it goes Is intended merely to supplement the writing of personal letters to frien friends dr and acquaintances in other parts of the united states calling their attention to the resources ind tuni ties of utah one or of the many advantages of this plan that will bo be readily noted lies in the fad fact that the school children of tho the state as well as many of their parents and amt older brothers anaf dit aisters will gain for themselves a more intimate ie knowledge of the state of utah through the work that will bo be eskary chiary in composing these letters advertising experts tell us that the personal appeal Is the atron strongest gest method of arousing and holding interest and it if this be true the friends of utah have in their power the means for counteracting any and all of the unfavorable impressions which have been circulated regarding the beehive state and its citizens during tho the last six months there has haet been a decided change iff thir tholonet inquires received f frosti M home seekers 6 and investors of the t E east these inquiries generally have e lesa esa antagonism and less siept skepticism cl with more genuine and friendly ni I 1 n rest it Is this attitude which uta in the campaign tor t ting ol of other states know th the e truth about 4 utah there are many instances where cit citizens izene of utah have sold ahr lands at a sacrifice and ami removed to distant points to begin all over again the work of establishing a home ab aa then discovered that tho th a lands they have purchased at higher prices have been in every way inferior to the lands which they have sold or have overlooked inalle in i the state of utah near their former homes in many or of these instances where citizens have been blind to the opportunities near at hand they have gone too tar far to turn back but it remains for others to profit by their mistakes and to act on the theory that utah Is first for utahna and that our own state is not only uble able to give bigger and surer returns for consistent and intelligent effort than any other state of the west but that the opportunities of utah are wide enough in their range and diversified in their character to furnish comfortable homes and tho necessities and luxuries of modem life to hundreds of thousands of now new citizens these are some of the ideas which brought about the movement for the designation of april 25 as utah day and which have resulted inthe arrangement of plans for the observance of this day which have the official approval of the governor of utah and the state superintendent of public instruction st county luperi superintendents n tend ants and educators oi of the state in general suggestive programs for the meetings which will be held in the me various schools in the afternoon and for abe mass meetings which will be held in the public halls throughout the state in the evening will appear in our next issue |
