Show nat 1 V ns special to tle the progress review for a number of years the people in various parts of the state 1 have come to tho the realization 0 ot the fact that something in the educational I 1 line ine was n needed that would lit fit in between the regular public school and h high agh school work as many young men and women could take taice advantage of a cou course arse of study of this kind when they would not go to the district school and were not prepared for high school to fill this much felt want the brigham youn young 1 university has establish ed the department known as the sub high school and the phenomenal success of this department has created wide spread interest many young men and women have enrolled in the course and have succeeded in passing off the work usually taken in the seventh and eighth grades of the public schools in doing M thin thi wora they are not put i nto into grades or classes with the smaller children nud aud for that reason they are given a much better opportunity to work many young wien men and wornon women feel the need of more education a af after tor they have r reached twenties but shun the embark embar ashment of doing grade work with children so usually let their opportunities slip by entirely this is no longer necessary for the condition is so well met at the B YU that man many young men and women are advancing rapidly through the system and are becoming much better prepared for high school work than ire are the regular graduates of our p public bublic schools last spring aprin ln 35 young people graduated from this department aud and most of them will this year enter the commercial high school and normal in al courses |
