Show hol holden d en HOLDEN may 25 1908 last friday may 22 our little town put pu t on a holiday appearance app earence the occasion being commencement day for the eighth grade i graduates of the county public schools eleven school districts were represented in all by 61 successful candidates who passed P assed an average per cent of 84 in their examination the commencement exercises exercises were held in the meeting house at 2 p in where a very commendable program was furnished f ur by members of the grad bating class prof francis i kirkham of the B Y U delav delivered er an address to the graduates his theme was the esthe possibilities of the country boy his talk was filled with encouragement ement to young people to make of them selves men and women of useful ness and worth the nations greatest statesmen have develop ed from the ambitious country boy the presentation of certificates by supt bupt joseph finlinson concluded the exercises after a banquet was served to graduates teachers and visitors A ball game between the teach ers and school s hool boys was commenced out owing to ay an accident it was called off unfinished A grand ball in the evening evl ning completed the day days s enjoyment the immense crowd that took part in the dance was a record breaker for our new hall and the sight of so many happy boys and girls to together Z 1 ether was as most ful the music was furnished by the kanosh orchestra which we think fits nicely in our hall ball austin AS ashby aby who wits was hit with the ball while playing ng itt in tho the game friday tina and got a broken nose was immediately taken to fill fillmore more to consult dr wight dwight D it wits was found that the accad accident ent was not serious qs and we were very glad to see him able to take part in the dance 10 lo ho is able to continue his work as usual although his face is somewhat bruised and discolored from the blow elder jas A stephenson has returned from the central states mission where he has spent the past twenty six months his wife came with him f from rom salt lake where she ha has been for several months william probert and wife of provo stopped on their way howe home from f rom a visit to cal and uncle sams fleet of war ships and are visiting friends and relatives in holden mr and mrs W A Seeg mill er of richfield are here visiting mrs se mill erss ss parents A P harmon and wife miss maude who has been in salina under the care of dr west for the past two months month is reported to be improving L A stevens and family have moved to lo logan loan an where mr stevens expects to continue his hi s hi higher her education he has been principal of our school and filled the position with credit we regret the loss of his assistance but wish him every success in his efforts to gain knowledg knowledge e moroni stevens purchased the home of his brother L A and has moved with his 9 family back from oasis where they have resided the past two years another good r rain ain last ni night bt makes things look fresh and green reen but the air remains cold |
