Show Sharing the Figs Once upon a time, there was a house surrounded by a pretty yard in which grew a large fig tree. A fain ' ily moved into this place, and the mistress soon saw that it was the playground of many beautiful birds who visited it daily. When the figs began to ripen, the very air resounded with music. The mistress of the house made hersell very unhappy by picturing the bird as greedily eating all of them and i leaving none for her. and one morn I ing she went nut to the tree and saw that one of the first and finest of the figs, which she had wanted for hei own. had ripened and the birds had eaten a hearty meal from il. At first she was very resentful; hut wuen she calmly thought the situu tion over, she came to the conclusion that the figs belonged by r'ght a much to the birds as they did to her and she was then content to share the fruit with them. Day h day so many litis ripened that hrsides what the birds ate. she had more than sin could use fresh. She made preserves j of what was left, and then had still j more which she gave to a neighlx.r and was always thankful for this les son from the fig tree. |
