Show POCATRLO TAKES U. P. CHAMPIONSHIP With the passing of the basketball season, local fans and partisans were interested in the showing made by Caliente in the Union Pacific tournament tourna-ment at Ogden, which was held last week. After five tough battles with Milford, Caliente was finally declared the winner among the teams along the Los Angeles and Salt Lake line, and was privileged to enter the tournament tourna-ment as the representative of this division. di-vision. Laramie was the team from the main line, Pocatello from the Oregon Short Line, and Seattle from the Oregon and Washington Railway Rail-way and Navigation. Caliente walloped Laramie in the opening encounter but lost to PoCa-tello PoCa-tello by the slim margin of 27 to 25. The latter team won the championship champion-ship by beating Laramie and Seattle, both by top-heavy scores. Inasmuch as Caliente was barely eliminated by the champions, it speaks well for the brand of basketball basket-ball put up by the Milford A. C. The Milford team won two and lost two to Caliente during the regular playing play-ing season, and a final play-off on a neutral floor was found necessary in order to determine the winner of this division. This game was lost by Milford Mil-ford by about six points but Caliente knew they had been through a battle. |
