Three parlies have been lurnied and the students are taking a keen interest in the outcome. The campaign managers are all at work and the sedate walls of the school are covered with pictures, and signs, urging the young citizens to cleave 'with the railsplitters; to ride with the rough riders and to remain as linn us Old Hickory The assembly period Friday will be turned into a triple rally, where each party will advocate the merits of its candidates in new and unique ways. Elections will be held in the afternoon. The candidates are as follows: li.iilspliUeirtj president, George Gardner; vice president, Ted Harter and secretary-treasurer, Claudia Trenholm. Old Hickory president, Charles Glenn; vice president, Therold White and secretary treasurer, Harold Bai ley. Roughnecks president, Bessie Killam; vice president, Ruth Elmer; secretary treasurer, Wilford Theissen. Theis-sen. Vacuity Member Becomes Possessor of a Ford He can now be observed taking the honored seat in his new car. Students had better watch their step too, because he aims to become a second Barney Oldfleld. The other day someone saw him under the said car prying into the mechanism. This person wanted to know what the trouble was. and Mr. Barnum replied that he was trying to find where the gasoline weut. Mr. Barnum could make good use of his car by taking his physiography students out to the neighboring hills for research. He won't say, though, how many students stu-dents could be accommodated Hoys in Need of a Coach The 'Milford High School has the best group of boys to pick a basketball basket-ball team from it has had for several years. The only thing lacking is a basketball coach. Mr. Tterry was assigned as-signed to coach basketball, but it is impossible for him to be with the boys as much as he should. In other high schools, the basketball coach has three subjects besides basketball to teach. That is the amount each teacher should teach, but Mr. Terry has five. The time for the gymnasium classes is 3:15 p. m. The last period per-iod of the day. At this timethere are always boys and girls who w-see w-see him in regard to different things. Besides, administration "duties and phone calls make it impossible for him to be at the gymnasium every evening, so to meet this need, the school is going to get one of the boys who has been graduated to come to the gymnasium and coach. The boys nil agreed to this and think it a good way to have a winning team; although al-though they would be very proud to have Mr Terry conch. Woodwork Department Large Mr. Barnum has charge of the woodwork department this year and he has a very enthusias'ir class. The boys have begun to make mnnv useful use-ful articles for household and other uses, and a list of them will be obtained ob-tained later. Those enrolled in the class at pres-ient pres-ient are: Rulon Bird, LeRoy Carlson Richard Cliff, Walter "Cook, Eugene Harter, Douglas Jennings-, Max Root, DeLoss Tanner, Jack Turley, Melvin Stanley and Thorald White. .Superintendent Visits Tuesday the school was visited by Mr. Day. Just as he opened the door to come into the study hall, everyone every-one started to clap. Mr. Day was about to deliver his best bow, when he received a kink in his back, or something equally serious anyway, he decided not to bow until later, and he found out later, that the students stu-dents were clapping over the outcome out-come of the student body nominations nomina-tions for student body officers. However, How-ever, Mr. Day will be gladly received any time he desires to visit the school. I he Dunce The dance given by the high school last Friday evening, was very successful suc-cessful A good time was enjoyed by all. Milford orchestra furnished unusually un-usually good jazz. Mr. Sam Cline presided at the piano. The funds raised by the sale of candy amounted to $25.00, which was much appreciated by the school The cake raffle brought $3.00 and was won by a nice looking young man, whose name we failed to learn We hope to see everyone at our next entertainment. Eugene Turner registered for the year Monday morning. The student body is especially glad to see an Increase In-crease in the upper class enrollment. Lillian Stoker registered in school Tuesday. Lillian came from the northern part of the state to attend1 the Milford High School. Miss Ollerton and Miss McKay spent Tuesday afternoon motering with Mr and Mrs. Barnum. |
