Show Letters to the Editor UNIVERSITY DEAN OBJECTS TO CHRONICLE EDITORIAL Editor I am writing with regard to the leading editorial in a ap in the issue of the Chronicle for October I have no intention of engaging in but am writing only in the interests of justice and the general welfare of the The professor from the music department w ho instructed freshmen not to stand while was being played did so with my full approval and In doing we were furthering an official action of the university of more than a year's The editorial itself that is now the official alma mater song of the but adds that it and probably will never be accepted by the students of this and that never will be discarded as the official university alma mater For years there has been great dissatisfaction in the student the and the alumni with as the alma mater song of the Whatever its merits as a rally and it has it is without question undignified and even crude as an alma mater Its music has for decades been kown to college men the country over as the music of a burlesque song entitled It was as a result of this general dissatisfaction and a feeling of shame that we had no appropriate university alma mater song that the contests were held which produced In this song we have a and dignified university hymn of which we can well be It would seem to me that we should all work together to promote its use and a feeling of respect for retaining fur what it a good football But this will never happen so as the official newspaper of the student body stands definitely opposed to all efforts to give the new song a and insists that students continue to pay respect to Sincerely Sydney W.
