Show BACKERS SHOW FAITH IN JAMES OIL WELL; WAIT NOW ON WEATHER; CASING AND LINING PRACTICALLY DONE The Walter James oil well has been the subject of many inquiries about town, as'work was known to be underway under-way at a period of but a few weeks ago, and little has been heard from the well since. ' Drilling ceased after reaching a depth of about 3100 feet, but only for the time being. If drilling has not been resumed at the time this paper goes to press, it will be shortly.. The reason for stopping the boring was because of the fact that a flow of salt water was reached. On the surface of the water were said to be tangible1 evidences of oil. Oil had been smelled near the location for a long time pre-; viously. . ! Although having' already ' reached a great depth, the investors in the en- j terprise thought the present to be the time to go ahead, or never. Funds were set aside for lining the hole with casing, and this work has been, done, together with concreting where necessary. Now, those who " are "in on the know" state that only an abatement of freezing weather is all that is be-: ing waited for. Much optimism is being expressed around Milford about the well's indication. Should the well blow in on resumption of drill- ing, it is unnecessary to state here how it will affect the backers, and also the holders of adjacent land. j The James well is situated north-' east of Milford, a short distance from Black Rock. It derives its name from ' the main promoter and owner of the : land, ; Walter James of Black Rock. It is not known to what extent stock in the concern is scattered, but a few Milford people have placed . thoir , money on the well to come through. |
