Show MINERSVILLE HAPPENINGS lliiki-l Hall i Last Friday night Vas a big night for Minersville, and all Minersville ! rn-'p to the occasion. That includes ;h- High School basket ball team. Tl.ey were scheduled to meet the Mur dock hoopsters. and when the hour struck, both quints were on the floor and in splendid form. Principal Smith played the prelude on the referee's re-feree's whistle, and the frolic was on. The new gym held the Jinx on the side of the home team, and they landed the fir.st field goal. Both teiins were supported with plenty of "rooters," and things moved in lively fashion. Many of the home people were as much surprised as the visitors when the score kept soaring in our favor. After the game was over a riot of applause greeted the announcement of the score 31 to 10 in favor of Minersville, and Coach Pendleton looked ever after. Commercial Club With the opening of 1920, the touch-stone to a bigger, richer and more beautiful Minersville was found A group of substantial business men and farmers got together and launch ! ed an organization that promises a new epoch in local 'history. In due time the constitution and by-laws were drawn up and Saturday night at a meeting of the future members, were cussed, discussed and accepted. The officers elected were: President Geo. Marshall, Jr.; Vice President, J. S. Murdock; Secretary, Cecil Baker; Bak-er; Treasurer, E. A. Griffiths; Publicity Pub-licity manager, Wil T. Morris. Supporting these officers was a board of directors consisting of progressive pro-gressive citizens and business men. Preparatons for a grand opening to be held in the new school building were placed in the hands of a competent com-petent committee who will announce the exact date later. The Mothers' club will arrange for the banquet. It is Relieved that this function will mark the dividing line between ''Punkin Town" and a Greater Mi ersville. Notice "Punkin Town'' becomes obsolete and Minersville goes on the commercial commer-cial map. Long live the Minersville Commercial Club. The dance which followed the basket bas-ket ball game Friday evening, marked mark-ed the formal opening of the Minersville Miners-ville school gym. Music was furnish ed by the Beaver orchestra. The large and enthusiastic crowd which attended was composed, mainly, of Minersville people, although many visitors from Beaver and Milford helped to make the opening a wonderful won-derful success. Monday evening the dramatic club classes of the Minersville high school under the direction of Mrs. Lucile Congers, presented two one-act com-.dies, com-.dies, "A Case of Suspension" and "Fun in a Photograph Gallery." A large and enthusiastic audience greet ed the performers. The aim of the course is to teach the student to think on his feet and to teach self-presentation by dramatization. dram-atization. "i |
