Show PUBLICITY Perhaps we are not qualified on the above subject because that is our business. We make our living out of publicity. But we believe that if there were more publicity given giv-en to the acts of our public officials, there would be less trouble, both for the people and for the officers. The fear of publicity keeps many a man in the straight and narrow path. If every officer knew that his every ev-ery act would bo exposed to the lie, many a dollar would be saved to the taxpayers, and yet a bill providing provid-ing for the publishing of the uroceed ings of our boards was defeated on account of its costing a few dollars, and the newspapers of the state kept still about it because if they made any "hollar" for it they would be called grafters, and yet if the bill had have become a law, it would have been the means of saving the taxpayers of Utah many times what it would have cost. Publicity is the cheapest safeguard insurance you might say, that the taxpayer has. We are glad that the mayor has arranged o have he entire proceedings proceed-ings of the town board published. We believe that it will save the taxpayers tax-payers many times what it is going to cost, and the News won't get rich on it. |
