Show MEXICO Some strange things are being unearthed un-earthed by the Senate sub-committee on Mexico, which is holding sessions on and near the Mexican boundary. One witness states that repeated warnings were given days in advance of the raid of March 9, 1916 at Columbus, Col-umbus, New Mexico, to which no attention at-tention was given by the people in authority. The danger was so great and so well known that an associated press writer who was on the ground arranging two or three days in advance ad-vance to have a special telegraph operator op-erator sent to Columbus to assist in transmitting the story which he knew was coming, but no man in authority made any preparation for protection against advancing raiders. Judge Medler who tried, convicted and had executed for murder 6 of the captured Mexican raiders, testified that urgent representations were made to him by the Attorney General of the United States, not to proceed with the case as the prisoners should not be tried in a civil court for murder, mur-der, as they had been taken prisoners prison-ers in connection with an invasion, and he further said: "The message deliveredl to me urged me to cease proceedings said I should hold up the case because it might result in complications with Mexico." I replied re-plied that there would be no watchful watch-ful waiting in my court. The authorities in Washington are still "watchfully waiting'' while our men are being robbed and murdered held for ransome, our daughters starved and outraged and our nation despoiled of its last vestage of honor. hon-or. The motto of the present administration admin-istration is "Millions for Tribute, but not one cent for defense. -There nevtjr can be qUH't ;:ivl piece i in Mexico ulnn the bonier until we I force it upon them, and the or.yy way ; 1 we can do that is to go with force i establish a territorial form of gov- j i eminent and as soon as th'.'y are rea- ' dy for self government, admit then- 1 to the American union, the same as we did with Arizona. Ttah. Nevada ; and California. You know, and 1 . know we all know that the best thing that ever happened to tho states named, was their annexation by force to the United States, and why not settle our present difficulties difficul-ties in the same manner. And in passing, Cuba should have been made a part of the United States Stat-es instead of allowing it to become as it is desetined to be. the greatest gambling and liquor resort in the Western hemisphere. And the Philippines, instead of ad vocating their freedom, thus making mak-ing them a bait, and cause for more trouble with Japan, should be prepared pre-pared for statehood and admitted as a state in the union the same with Honolulu. I am for settling the Mexican nues lion once and for all. |
