Show i:.MIATIO FOU POSTMASTER To lill the vcancy in the position of postmaster ot Milford, Utah, the I'nited Stales Civil Service Commission Commis-sion has announced, at the request of the Postmaster General, an open competitive examination to be held on June 1 6. 19 20. To be eligible for the examination an applicant must be a citizen of the United States Stat-es must actually reside within the de livery of the postofflce in which the vacancy exists, must have so resided at the time of the present vacancy must be in good physical condition", and must be not less than 21 nor more than 6 5 years of age. While the Civil Service is charged with the duty of testing applicants for position of postmaster at offices of this class, such positions are not classified under the Civil service law, being filled through nomination by the President for the confirmation of the Senate. However, the President Pres-ident is using the civil service machinery ma-chinery for the purpose of selecting the nominees, and issued an Executive Execu-tive order on March 31, 1917, which provides for such procedure. Competitors will be examined in the subjects of arithmetic and accounts, ac-counts, with a weight of 30 per cent; penmanship 10 per cent; letter-writing 25 per cent; and business training train-ing and experience 3 5 per cent. The subject of business training and ex perience will be rated on the applicant's appli-cant's sworn statements in his application, appli-cation, supplemented by careful inquiry in-quiry by the Civil Service commission. commis-sion. The examination papers of the competitors and the evidence obtained obtain-ed through inquiry by the Civil Service Ser-vice commission will be considered by trained examiners, and their judgment will be expressed in percentage per-centage ratings. The result of the examination will be referred to the Post Office department for its action in accordance with the President's order. The Postmaster General is required by the order to submit to the President the name of the highest high-est eligible to fill the vacancy unless it is established that the character or residence of such applicant disqualifies dis-qualifies him for appointment.
