Show - M.U. Grid Squad Is Well Pleased WitliTreatment They came they saw and they were conquered! Speaking of the University of Montana football team, fine looking athletes1 as they were, who were thoroughly pleased pleas-ed with the wellknown Milford brand of hospitality extended to them (today) Thursday as they spent more than eight hours between be-tween trains, making this their only stop for workout purposes in their jump from Helena, Montana, to Los Angeles. They meet the University of Califprnia in Los Angeles Saturday and will pass through Milford again Sunday on No. 8, homeward bound. Between breakfast, served in the Union Pacific dining room on arrival, and luncheon at 11:30, the boys were free to lounge or see the town, changing to scrimmage suits at 12:30 o'clock for a lively workout at the U. P. ball park. Divided into groups, the workout consisted of signal practice, punting, punt-ing, drop-kicking and some tackling tack-ling practice, finishing off with some scrimmage work, the fellows making a splendid impression with their new suits and uniform good behavior and sportsmanship. Following the workout tthey enjoyed en-joyed a swim and showers at the high school. The team and management per-sonnel per-sonnel arrived on No. 21 in the-morning, the-morning, their special Pullman car being sidetracked here and made their headquarters until the departure de-parture of No. 7 at 3:15. In the party were 34 people, the number including besides players, Douglas Fessenden, .head coach, A. J. Lew-andowsky, Lew-andowsky, assistant coach; Kirk Badgley, business manager; Webster Web-ster Searles, student manager and Nasby Rhinehart, colored trainer, university graduate and former football star, who had a careful eye for "the boys" every move they made. John D Hague, traveling trav-eling freight and passenger agent for the Union Pacific system at Butte, Montana, had personal charge of the party, representing his company, and took care that every courtesy and consideration was shown the group, the railroad sharing liberally with Milford and its people dn the fine praise and gratitude expressed by players and others. The team is a light one in comparison com-parison with some of the coast machines, the line averaging 188 pounds while the backfield averages aver-ages 180 pounds The boys appear ed smart and fast, however, and will give a good account of themselves on whatever gridiron grid-iron they may appeal-. Incidentally, Incident-ally, they meet Stanford university univer-sity November 16 on the Stanford field. The University of Montana is in the Pacific conference, while the other , Montana university, Montana State college, at Boze-rrsan, Boze-rrsan, is in the Rocky Mountain conference. |
